What is Church?

Matthew 18:20 For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there among them.”
I remember playing the steeple game as a child. You would lock your fingers together, allowing your index fingers to make a point. Then you would say, “I see the steeple and open the doors and see all the people.” Today’s people spend most of their time with their mouth wide open, saying, “Wow! Look at that steeple or look at that building.” It’s time to be tugged on and remember: it’s not the steeple; it’s the people that make up the Church.
The message today is the Church isn’t a building—it’s the people of God gathered together in His name. We must be aware of the Church is much more than just a building. It’s a group of people who care for one another, who grow together in the grace of God, and make an impact for Jesus. Frankly, I’m tired of “uppity” Christianity. The church was never started to be a place for just the wealthy, the comfortable, and those who have it all together. No, the church is for the broken, the hurting, and those whose lives are falling apart. If we are honest our status doesn’t protect us from life. We ALL have broken, hurting, and parts of our life which is a total mess. As Christians, this must be how we see ourselves in the world.
Don’t just go to church. Be the Church! Fellowship with other believers who will care for you, help you grow in your faith, and who will take it to the world! Make a commitment to put your arms around your community and make a real difference for Jesus.  Your desire for Jesus should show God’s love and grace to everyone because that’s the kind of church God calls us to be!
No more excuses it’s time to be the salt and light by engaging the hurting and the broken with the message of God!
